Wedgewood or Not? - H K Crown Pottery Mark





Wedgewood or Not - H K Crown Pottery Mark:- This is a picture of the back of a Christ medallion.It is green and white and looks like Wedgewood. I was however told that it is not. Can you help me understand the pottery mark please?

It is a mark from W Goebel of W germany (W over G).

Below is my original answer (unedited)

I checked out my various reference books and could not find the exact mark, although it bears a similarity to the Hochst factory mark of Mainz, Germany who produced wares in the 18th Century. Their marks varied, but often featured a round wheel with spokes, sometimes with a crown, I can't see from your photo whether the mark under the crown is a small squashed wheel with spokes or not. Certainly, the crown device looks a similar shape.

Be aware that the genuine Hochst mark found rarely and Hochst type marks are often identified as 'spurious' by auctioneers.

Continue your own research from that point.
