Woods Ivory Ware Set - Antique China and Fine China Collectibles Query:- I have an incomplete set of Woods Ivory Ware which belonged to my grandmother. One of the pieces has a nbr stamped on the bottom 2A S 3 8 (cream pitcher). The pieces have a floral design, are white with yellow, a rose flower, smaller yellow flower and smaller green flowers.
Would there be an antique value in these pieces?

Hi Paulette
Thanks for your query.
The Company of Wood & Sons Ltd which made "Woods Ivory Ware" is not to be confused with the over 30 other factories all of the name 'Wood' OR 'Woods'.
However, your Woods & Sons is the undoubted cream of the crop in my view.
Your factory was based at the Trent & New Wharf Potteries, Burslem, Staffordshire, England. "Woods Ivory Ware" was made from 1930 onwards - mainly in the 1930's and 40's.
Normally (at time of writing) "Woods Ivory Ware" plates fetch around £2 - £3 GBS ($3 - $5 USD) each. Not bad at all. The amount may be more depending on the pattern and date.
To check out some typical lots, go to my
China Replacement page and follow the special link to eBay. Then put in the words "Woods Ivory Ware plates" into the search box and tick the 'Include title and description' box. This should give you a feel for values and what's out there.
If you need a more definitive answer I suggest you try my ‘fast track to an expert’ page, written especially for visitors to my site who are seriously researching their wares. Here, you can get in touch with a professional appraiser (checked out personally by me) who will tell you if the mark is identifiable by experts without you having to pay any money upfront:
www.figurines-sculpture.com/antique-china-values.html This service is unique online and is designed to protect my site visitors from wasting their time and money online. (NB: to do so you will need to supply photos of both the item and the pottery mark).
Woods made various types of wares like ironstone and earthenware but never, to my knowledge, bone china.
They made:
Royal Semi-Porcelain
Ironstone China
Wood's ware
Wood's Ivory ware
Wood's Bery Ware
Paris Ware
Normally bone china has a higher value than Ironstone or any other type of ware. The reason being it is higher quality and therefore more expensive to produce.
Hope this information is useful.
