royal vale

I HAVE A ROYAL VALE TEA SET THAT WAS LEFT TO ME BY MY GRANDMOTHER 18 YEARS AGO.AS FAR BACK AS I CAN REMEMBER IT WAS ALWAYS IN HER CABINET.ME BEING 62 YEARS OLD NOW,I WOULD LIKE IF POSSIBLE TO FIND OUT HOW OLD IT COULD BE.

ON THE UNDERSIDE IT SAYS,
ROYAL VALE
COLCLOUGH
LONGTON
ENGLAND
THE PATTERN I WOULD SAY IS IN THE STYLE OF A FORGET ME NOT, WITH THE CENTRES BEING RED, WITH 4 SMALL GREEN LEAVES.NO DATE OR ANYTHING IS SHOWN.
I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP YOU COULD GIVE ME ON THIS SUBJECT.

YOURS SINCERELY,

VALERIE EDLIN

Royal Vale - Pre Ridgways
by: Peter (admin)

Hello Valerie

Thanks for your Royal Vale question.

The tea set you mention was pre-1950's set, just from the fact that you remember the set. However, your memories are verified by the fact there is no 'Ridgway' mark (which began from about 1953-55).

Look at the page written by Dawn on Royal Vale backstamps for more info. I suspect the more simple stamp like yours

ROYAL VALE
COLCLOUGH
LONGTON
ENGLAND

is pre-1944 when the Pearson group took over Colclough (the makers of Royal Vale). It could date to anywhere from 1913 to 1944. A picture of the pattern would help further.
